Some of this is fair game for a homeowner. Wipe down the tracks, check that the rubber weather seal at the bottom hasn't cracked, and spray a silicone-based lubricant on the rollers and hinges once or twice a year. You can also test the auto-reverse safety feature by setting an object in the door's path and watching it stop and reverse. What you shouldn't touch is the torsion spring itself - it's under enough tension to cause serious injury, and on a door from the early 1980s, that spring has had a long time to fatigue in ways you can't see from the outside. If the door feels heavier than it used to, or the opener strains to lift it, that's a tension problem, not a lubrication problem, and it's not a DIY fix.
